Well we are coming up on that time of the year again! Stuck inside and nothing to do! The kids just keep yelling “I’m bored MOM!” It cost so much to go anywhere with the price of gas. So what can we do??? Well I tell you from experience that kids absolutely love to make a mess! The ooey-gooeyer (is that a word?) the better!! The stickier it is, the bigger the smile is on their faces! Well here are a few ideas that you can make with things you will find around your own house and the kids will have something different to do. As a matter of fact take a break yourself and get to making some messes!!! 🙂
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
1 TBS oil
1 TBS cream of tartar
Food Coloring
Directions:
Heat all ingredients in a saucepan on low to medium heat. Stir continuously. Once dough is at the consistency you want, remove from heat. Cool before using. (High salt content so please keep playdough away from pets)
Remember to keep young children away from the stove
Home Made Finger Paint
Not messy enough for you!! Well kids also love to paint!! Have you ever bought finger paints! They are not cheap! Kids just love playing with them though, and it’s no wonder why. Do you remember doing it? Well sit down with them and check it out! It’s very relaxing and the cool of the paint on your hands is great!
Making your own finger paint takes three inexpensive ingredients: cornstarch, walter, and food coloring. Be sure to keep little helpers far away from the stove, and to make sure that the paint is completely cool before allowing kids to start their masterpieces! Remember to sit down and try out finger painting for yourself!
1) Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Meanwhile, dissolve 1 cup of cornstarch with a small amount of water.
2) Once the water in a the saucepan reaches a boil, remove it from the heat, and add the cornstarch mixture.
3) Place the saucepan back over the heat until the mixture is thick and clear. Stir occasionally.
4) Divide the mixture into separate containers. Once it cools, add different food coloring or eco friendly dye to each container for a variety of colors.
